It will surprise no one to learn that the rumour-mill is going into overdrive ahead of MWC 2013. The mobile world is expecting big releases from LG, Sony, HTC, Samsung and Nokia as well as RIM, or as it’s now known, BlackBerry. This year’s MWC is being hosted at a completely new venue offering double the exhibition space, including 21% more seating for conferences, allowing exhibitors to play to bigger audiences – all of which, fuels rumour, prediction and excitement.
After the interest in our NFC Contactless Challenge in London last year, for which we issued bloggers Jon Choo and Ewan MaCleod with a Quick Tap enabled Galaxy S III handset, I’ve been anticipating the release of Samsung’s next iteration of the world’s most popular smartphone. However, if Gareth Beavis of TechRadar is to be believed, the Galaxy S IV won’t make an appearance until May, at one of Samsung’s own ceremonies.
Since the contactless challenge in London, 4G has now become available in the UK, as well as a host of other nations. LTE presents a lot of opportunities for smartphones, and the ability to embrace quicker speeds is something that could make or break the market in years to come. In fact, ZTE has jumped the game and already announced two new LTE smartphones ahead of MWC. I wonder how each blogger would cope if we asked them to spend a similar 10 days with only mobile broadband to carry out their working lives?
